Important News About This Site

Some of you may be wondering what's happening with this site, why there aren't more updates, etc. Those of you that have been regular site visitors have a right to know what's going on. I'm going to do my best to answer your questions as best as possible.
  • What's happening with the weekly reviews?

  • My day job is that of a freelance web developer. Sometimes things are good, and sometimes they aren't so good. Right now, I'm going through a period where things aren't so good, and have not been in quite some time. Due to budget considerations, I lost the one contract that I had that was keeping everything going. Since then, I've been working hard to find other contracts, and I have found another contract, and potentially a couple more.

However, due to cash flow considerations, I've had to do without some things for a bit. One of the things has been my weekly trip to the comic book store. Until my cash flow situation gets better, that will continue to be the case.

  • So without weekly reviews, what's the future of this site?

  • Well, I have renewed my hosting space for another year, and I plan to continue doing trade paperback reviews in the interim. Additionally, there are areas of the site which have been somewhat dormant that I would like to return to, such as the features. Also, I do intend to do weekly reviews again, I'm just not sure when.

So for now, the site will stay open and I will try to keep doing updates as I can.

  • Have you considered merging with another site, or writing for another site?

  • I've had a ton of offers, either to host my site, or to join another site. However, I created Four Color Explosion to be my site, created by me, and controlled by me. So no, I won't be going elsewhere.

  • Is there anything I can do to help?

  • I'm not looking for donations, if that's what you mean. However, if someone would like to have a website developed, I am available. E-Mail me if you want more information. Conversely, if you own a comics store in Chicago and would like to negotiate a barter deal (free comics in consideration of advertising on site for your store), I'd like to hear from you as well.

Beyond finding work, there are some other things that could help. For one, visit the forums and start posting there. I do plan on keeping them moderated and friendly, so please come on down to chat. I check the boards every day.

Also, when I initially created this site, I had hoped to have a number of people contributing content other than myself. Unfortunately, while I've gotten some excellent contributions from John DeBarbieri and Aaron Noble, they really don't have the time to contribute regularly, and I've really not received any other offers or requests to write for the site. I would love to have some additional contributors to the site. If you're interested, please contact me.
